Volunteer Recruitment

Columbia Fire Department is one of the largest Fire Rescue departments in the state of South Carolina, which demands a increase the need for volunteers to compliment our excellent career staff. We offer multiple ways you can serve our department and your community; you can serve in the Explores Firefighter program, or as a Support Volunteer, Support Operations Volunteer, Emergency Medical Services Volunteer, Volunteer Driver Operator or Volunteer Firefighter.

Our vision is to be the home of the model combination career-volunteer Fire / Rescue system, but to do that, we need your help! We are excited about the prospect of having you as a team member. If you decide to make the commitment to your friends, neighbors and your community, please complete this application package and submit it for further consideration.

Upon submission of your application, it will be reviewed with a criminal background and driving record check being performed. If accepted you will be notified to attend an orientation meeting that is held monthly to receive additional information and what will be expected of you as a volunteer member of our Department. If issues arise during the review of your application, you will be notified that your application is on-hold pending a further inquiry by this office or it has been rejected.

As a volunteer, we provide your required training and offer you a vast array of benefits as well as the possibility of advancement to a career position.

Our personnel are available to support and assist you in all facets of your forthcoming experiences. I invite you to contact me personally if you have questions.
