Fire Marshals will be in the Hospitality Districts of the City of Columbia to ensure night clubs and bars are in compliance.
Columbia Fire Chief Aubrey D. Jenkins announced today “The Columbia Fire Department’s Fire Marshals will be partnering with the City of Columbia’s Hospitality Districts this weekend to ensure all are in compliance with fire codes to reduce the risk of overcrowding and prevent injury or death if a fire were to occur.”
Hospitality inspections consist of teams of Fire Marshals who visit various establishments during the peak hours on weekend nights. They will conduct headcounts of patrons at the establishments, check exits, pathways, fire suppression/life safety equipment, storage, permits and emergency light units.
As the City’s Hospitality Districts prepare for St. Patrick’s Day Chief Jenkins emphasizes the importance of this partnership with the owners and operators of these establishments and to ensure that the patrons and employees are in a fire safe environment. “This is a team effort between the fire service and our business community with one goal in mind, ensuring that customers and staff are in a safe venue”, stated Chief Jenkins.
Chief Jenkins appreciates the cooperation from the bars and night club owners/management during these inspections and looks forward to the continued partnerships in keeping them fire safe.
